Nova Scotia Plans to Sell Recreational Marijuana in Liquor Stores and Online

In mid-2018, marijuana will start being sold beside bottles of whisky, vodka and rum in liquor stores throughout Nova Scotia, Canada’s easternmost province. It will also be sold online.

The province’s only alcohol distributor, Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC), will be in charge of selling recreational marijuana in the province as soon as Canada legalizes marijuana in July 2018, the Huffington Post reports.

Nova Scotia’s Minister of Justice said the NSLC would be selling marijuana at numerous liquor stores and online. Stating that the “NSLC has the experience and expertise to distribute and sell restricted products like alcohol and now cannabis in a socially responsible way. We believe the NSLC is best positioned to sell cannabis, keeping it out of the hands of young people and making it legally available in a safe, regulated way.”

Nova Scotians ages 19 and older will be allowed to grow up to four marijuana plants per household and have up to 30 grams of marijuana for personal use.

The Canadian government is allowing Canada’s 10 provinces to produce their own policies governing the consumption of recreational marijuana.
