Oregon Bill Blocks Federal Agencies from Accessing Marijuana Users’ Info

Oregon has decided to take action after hearing recent remarks by the federal government about the potential crackdown on states that have legalized marijuana.

Lawmakers in Oregon have approved a bill that would protect the names, birth dates and other personal information of recreational marijuana users from being accessed by federal law enforcement officers, The Washington Post reports.

Governor Kate Brown is expected to sign the bill into law soon.

Oregon recreational marijuana dispensaries would have 30 days to destroy their recreational marijuana customers’ personal data from their records, and be banned from obtaining any future data.

The collection of personal data about marijuana users is already illegal or highly discouraged in Alaska, Colorado and Washington.
