Metro Meds

Metro Meds dispensary’s Phoenix cultivation facility caught fire Friday evening.

The blaze was ignited from contents within the medical marijuana facility catching fire, reports AZCentral. Due to unknown chemicals inside the cultivation warehouse the Phoenix Fire Department had to initiate a second-alarm response which requires at least 50 firefighters to show up at the fire.

Fortunately, only one Metro Meds employee suffered from minor burns, and approximately 10 other employees were uninjured and evacuated safely, reported Capt. Larry Subervi from the Phoenix Fire Department.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
