Arizona Marijuana Businesswomen Holding News Conference

Monarch Dispensary
Businesswomen from Arizona’s medical marijuana business community are holding a news conference on September 15th to highlight the economic benefits that would be created for women in Arizona if voters approve Proposition 205 this November.

The event will take place at 11am at Monarch dispensary at 8729 E. Manzanita Drive in Scottsdale.

The businesswomen will have materials highlighting survey data that show how women hold a much larger share of executive-level positions in marijuana businesses than on average in the U.S. Research reveals that women hold 36% of the total executive-level positions in the legal marijuana industry, including 63% of high-level positions at marijuana testing labs and nearly 50% at infused products and processing businesses, according to a Marijuana Business Daily survey conducted in October 2015. The Pew Research Center reported in 2014 that women only hold 22% of such positions at U.S. companies in general.

Some of the female medical marijuana professionals attending the event are Dr. Gina Berman, medical director at Giving Tree Wellness Center dispensary; Genifer Murray, marijuana industry entrepreneur and CEO of Carbon Blue Consulting; and Laura Bianchi, marijuana industry attorney and partner at Rose Law Group.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff.
