Marijuana sales have more than tripled to $10 billion worldwide in the last four years, and forecasters believe sales will reach $50-$200 billion by 2030. In America, certain states have blossoming marijuana sales.

Arizona ranked 8th on a list of 10 states with the most marijuana sales in 2019, The Motley Fool reported. The totals listed below include legalized recreational and medical marijuana sales (for the states that have both).

The 10 top-selling marijuana states are:

  • California – $3.1 billion
  • Colorado – $1.6 billion
  • Washington – $1.1 billion
  • Florida – $1 billion
  • Michigan – $1 billion
  • Nevada – $770 million
  • Oregon – $752 million
  • Arizona – $705 million
  • Massachusetts – $484 million
  • Pennsylvania – $298 million

Arizona voters will likely vote to pass the Smart and Safe Arizona Act ballot measure to legalize adult-use cannabis in 2020. When this passes, Arizona’s annual marijuana sales will skyrocket into the billions of dollars.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
