A new Emerson College ePoll conducted from June 21-22, 2018, found that when Arizona “voters were asked about the legalization of marijuana, 53% approve and 39% disapprove.”

As for Arizona’s political parties, 66% of Democrats and 62% of Independents show support for recreational marijuana legalization, but only 32% of Republicans.

The ePoll also found that a “potential issue for the Democrats is that while legalization is very popular with 18-34 year old voters – 65% support, 20% oppose,” another key constituent group, the Hispanic voters, “are split 45% support [legalization] with 44% oppose.”

The Emerson College ePoll also found Arizona Democrats with an early lead in the U.S. Senate race, and anti-marijuana Republican Governor Ducey with a low approval rating.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
