JL Mealer
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s term limit is up, leaving many new and outspoken candidates vying to become the next Governor of Arizona. One of those candidates is JL Mealer, an independent who supports marijuana legalization in Arizona.

JL Mealer’s website states:

“Arizona must legalize and tax marijuana as we do with alcohol…The taxes from sales work great for our economy and the drugs from cannabis are less destructive and the after-effects are not as permanent…Scientifically, monetarily, health and safety all taken into consideration…Legalizing marijuana is a smart idea.”

Arizona’s medical marijuana program has brought in millions of dollars in tax revenue from dispensaries and medical marijuana card fees as well as helped over 50,000 people get access to natural medicine for their ailment(s). Legalizing marijuana in Arizona would increase the state’s tax revenue, help more people have access to natural medicine, and hopefully reduce crime rates as seen in Denver since marijuana legalization was implemented.

Thus far, marijuana legalization has worked even better than Colorado officials hoped and on July 8, 2014, Washington state is implementing its own marijuana legalization regulations as well.

Marijuana legalization has become such a influential topic lately that an outspoken pro-marijuana legalization candidate just might find the following needed to get elected.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
