A political action committee (PAC) called Legalize America has launched with backing from the advocacy group U.S. Cannabis Council as well as legal cannabis industry companies. It’s described as the first super PAC aimed at cannabis reform in the U.S.
Legalize America is a bipartisan PAC with goals that include working to pass the SAFE Banking law to open up the banking system to legal marijuana companies, and to urge the Biden administration to change the current status of cannabis as a Schedule I controlled substance to either a Schedule III drug or descheduling it entirely.
“We’ll support candidates who are advancing reform and oppose those who are blocking it,” said David Culver, senior vice president of public affairs for the U.S. Cannabis Council.
Curaleaf Holdings Inc., Cronos Group and Dutchie are among the major supporters of Legalize America, Market Watch reported.
