This weekend, the Scottsdale, Arizona-based company Discount Tire, contributed $1 million to fight against Proposition 205, which would legalize marijuana use for adults 21 and older in Arizona, according to campaign finance records from the Arizona Secretary of State’s office.
The donation went to the group called Arizonans for Responsible Drug Policy (ARDP), reports the Phoenix Business Journal. The group is notorious for its “reefer madness”-style TV commercial propaganda currently airing on local TV stations. People can visit FactCheck205.com to fact-check ARDP’s false advertising campaigns.
Discount Tire representatives have not commented about the massive, last-minute donation to fight Prop 205.
Arizona, California, Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada all have adult-use marijuana legalization measures on this November’s ballots. If Prop 205 passes, Arizona would join Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Washington D.C., who have already legalized marijuana for adult recreational use.
Arizonans can vote on Prop 205 up until Nov. 8 at 7pm.
