Marijuana smokers in Southern Illinois can now legally light up in a new consumption lounge. The Luna Lounge, in Sesser, Illinois, about 5 hours south of Chicago, was specifically built for marijuana smokers.
Illinois’s new recreational marijuana law allows cities to authorize marijuana consumption lounges for adults 21 and up, but only in licensed marijuana dispensaries or a “retail tobacco store,” which is defined as a store that generates 80% of more of its revenue from the sale of tobacco or smoking products, the Chicago Tribune reported.
“We’re providing a place to smoke cannabis, just like a bar — but with no alcohol,” said Luna Lounge owner, Holly Roeder.
Luna’s customers will pay a $4.20 entry fee and can purchase CBD, pipes, rolling papers and rent bongs. Luna will provide entertainment with bands, comedians and board games.
“The feedback we’ve gotten has been overwhelmingly positive,” Sesser’s mayor said. “I don’t partake, but just like every new business, I’m going to show up and show my support. I hope they have a domino effect and bring in tourism for other businesses. We’re hoping it will help Sesser grow.”
