A campaign for a 2020 ballot initiative to legalize adult-use (recreational) marijuana in Arizona has launched. The campaign is currently crafting the initiative’s language, and it is expected that the initiative will be filed near the end of this month.
This will be the second major attempt to legalize cannabis for adult use in Arizona. The first attempt was in 2016 with Prop 205, which narrowly failed (51.77% to 48.23%).
The campaign committee Smart and Safe Arizona was created to run the campaign. They will be taking into consideration Prop 205’s language and other recreational marijuana states’ laws to craft the new initiative.
These are some of the key aspects that the initiative will address:
- Amount taxed on marijuana sales
- Public and private consumption laws
- Home cultivation laws
- Driving under the influence
- Employment drug laws
- Number of dispensaries that can sell marijuana
The campaign is currently accepting donations on their website to support the initiative. They’ve already raised $100,000 from Harvest Enterprises Inc, which operates nine dispensaries in Arizona.
