Cannabis Study

A recent survey by Nielsen revealed that about one-third of U.S. adults want cannabis legalized so they can have access to the plant’s healing abilities, but not for its psychoactive properties. Over 80% of those surveyed indicated they want to use marijuana for pain management.

The study also found that 81% of those surveyed would prefer to use marijuana for improved mental health, according to Market Watch. Most of those surveyed are using pharmaceutical or over-the-counter remedies for existing physical and mental ailments.

According to the survey, Americans want to use cannabis for:

  • Treating injuries (81%)
  • Sleep support (77%)
  • Relaxation (74%)
  • Preventing ailments or diseases (60%)
  • Physical health support (58%)
  • Medical conditions without pain as a factor (63%)
  • Dealing with friends and family (48%)

It’s noted that about 70% of the adults surveyed believe that marijuana is safer than prescriptions and over-the-counter medications. The shift to healthier lifestyles is also represented in the results of this survey as 69% said that they view marijuana as being “more natural.”

⚡️

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
