Four years after Massachusetts passed its medical marijuana law, the first Boston dispensary has opened.
Patriot Care dispensary, located on historic Milk Street in downtown Boston, is the seventh dispensary to open in Massachusetts, WBUR reports.
“We don’t expect it to be overwhelming. It’s still a medically-focused program so the patients we see have all received their certification from physicians approved by the state.” said Nicholas Vita of Patriot Care.
Patriot Care dispensary is three years in the making and say they can handle at least 150 patients each day. By opening day, August 4, the dispensary reported having over 200 patients preregistered.
The number of patients cleared to purchase medical marijuana continues to rise steadily, at more than 27,000 as of the end of June. Dispensaries are selling almost 13,000 ounces a month.
