Nevada Marijuana Casinos

Some Nevada casinos are hoping that the recreational marijuana legalization ballot measure in the state passes so that they can have an opportunity to sell marijuana to casino-goers.

The campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol in Nevada is the group responsible for getting the initiative onto the November ballot. If passed, Nevada would legalize the possession of an ounce or less of marijuana for recreational use for anyone at least 21 years of age.

A campaign spokesperson spoke to 13 Action News, saying: “We’ve got so much experience with gaming… We know that we’ve got the expertise to do the same thing with marijuana.”

The spokesperson added, “We saw when we tried to do this in 2002, we had 39% support. When we tried to do it in 2006, we had 44% support. Now, it looks like 10 years later we’ve got about 60% support.”

The notion of combining recreational marijuana use and casino games is appealing, but it may take some time to manifest.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
