The Arizona recreational cannabis market (for ages 21 and older) is expected to see substantial growth as Americans continue to relocate to the Grand Canyon State in droves.
The state ranked third in population growth from 2020 to 2021, behind Texas and Florida, according to a report by moveBuddha. And, subsequently, Arizona’s adult-use marijuana market saw 55.3% growth through the first nine months in 2022 when compared to 2021.
“As Arizona continues to be a hotspot for growth, Arizona Dispensaries Association is proud to support cannabis business owners in the state as they also support growth of adult use and continue to advocate for the medical program,” said Ann Torrez, executive director of the Arizona Dispensaries Association. The ADA represents more than 80% of license holders in Arizona, advocating for safe use and serving as the voice for the industry.
From 2020 to 2021, Maricopa County gained more residents than any other county in the country, adding 159,000 Phoenicians. And in 2022, the Phoenix area once again had some of the largest gains of any county in the country.
Tucson also saw a surge in popularity in 2021, and the latest 2022 data shows Tucson is the sixth most popular for inbound moves in 2022. The Arizona college towns Tempe (ASU), Tucson (UofA), and Flagstaff (NAU) are getting some love, too. They’re also some of the most affordable places to live in Arizona.
According to the report:
- There are 5.9% fewer homes available to meet demand than a year ago, and new residents are still coming, many of whom are looking to buy a home.
- Some forecast another 15 to 25% increase in home prices in the coming year.
- The majority of people moving to Arizona are coming from California.
