The Arizona Department of Health Services’ (ADHS) latest medical marijuana report reveals that Arizona’s medical marijuana program is growing steadily and continues to be one of the largest medical marijuana markets in America. Arizona’s hemp industry is also one of the largest in the country.

Below is data on the status of the Arizona medical marijuana program.

  • Medical marijuana patients: 223,285
  • Caregivers: 735
  • Dispensary agents: 6,872

The age ranges of Arizona’s medical marijuana patients are:

  • Under 18: 183
  • 18 to 30: 55,032
  • 31 to 40: 47,782
  • 41 to 50: 36,035
  • 51 to 60: 34,383
  • 61 to 70: 35,243
  • 71 to 80: 12,594
  • 81 and older: 2,033

Sexes of Arizona’s patients are:

  • Males: 132,527 (59.35%)
  • Females: 90,758 (40.65%)

Patients’ qualifying conditions for medical marijuana:

  • Chronic Pain: 200,188 (89.66%)

AZ dispensaries sold a total of 15,302 pounds of marijuana (244,837 ounces) last month:

  • Marijuana flower: 13,907 pounds (222,514 ounces)
  • Marijuana edibles: 439 pounds
  • Other marijuana: 956 pounds

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
