Marijuana Chef

Scottsdale chef and medical marijuana patient Payton Curry, owner of the Brat Haus and Tacos Haus restaurants, isn’t serving marijuana edibles at his restaurants, but he is teaching people how to cook dishes infused with medical marijuana.

Curry is teaching medical marijuana cooking classes on how to make edibles, or marijuana-infused foods.

He believes marijuana extracts, such as “cannabutter” or oil, are better ways to utilize marijuana. “I don’t want people to be smoking if they have concerns about lung problems or carcinogens,” Curry said.

The cooking classes teach people how to make smoothies with medical marijuana and other healthy substances such as honey instead of corn syrup.

Curry endorses the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes and even supports his employees by helping to pay for their medical marijuana cards. He said medical marijuana can help with the symptoms of chronic pain, cancer, Alzheimer’s, Epilepsy and has anti-inflammatory and other medicinal properties.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
