Scottsdale’s first medical marijuana dispensary could be opening within the year. Monarch Wellness Centers Inc., is the dispensary operator that appears only to need to make tenant improvements at their Scottsdale location near Pima Road and Via de Ventura Road before being able to open.

Monarch Wellness Centers Inc. was awarded a dispensary registration certificate by the Arizona Department of Health Services last month after winning the dispensary lottery. And now Monarch has received their copy of the state certificate which activates the use of their permit. So assuming that the tenant improvements are handled appropriatly, Monarch’s south Scottsdale dispensary could be in operation soon.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
