Uruguay is making its case for coolest country on the planet (again) with the announcement that they will be allowing inmates to use marijuana with a doctor’s recommendation.
Julio Calzada, Uruguay’s drug czar and architect of the legal marijuana infrastructure, announced to The Associated Press this week that any inmate with a doctor recommendation for marijuana to improve their mental or physical condition will be permitted to smoke while in custody.
Meanwhile, Daniel Olesker, the social development minister announced that medicinal marijuana will also be introduced into the public health system, meaning that marijuana will soon be available alongside such eastern style medicines as acupuncture.
Uruguay hopes to have everything in regards to their legal marijuana venture wrapped up in the next couple of weeks; however actual legalization won’t take place until year’s end.
