Arizona Poll Shows 62.9% Support for Recreational Marijuana Legalization

poll conducted this February by OH Predictive Insights and the Consumer Choice Center indicates that 62.9% of the Arizona voters support legalizing and taxing marijuana like alcohol. Of those 62.9%, 40.9% “strongly support” legalization while 22.0% “somewhat support.”

A large divide between Republican and Democrat support was indicated, a nearly 20% gap, according to KTAR. Democratic support was 68.9% and Republican support was 48.2%. Independents showed 61.7% support for recreational legalization.

Those polled in the 18 – 34 age group support recreational legalization by 72.5% while those ages 65 and older showed over 50% support. Less than 13% were unsure about the topic.

At least two adult-use recreational marijuana legalization initiatives—HCR 2037 and the Safer Arizona Cannabis Legalization Act—are expected to be on the Arizona ballots in November 2018.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
